The Shoe Clinic Southern Lakes Half Marathon & 10k will be held on 2 April 2011. The course will be down the Cardrona Valley starting from just below the Cardorna Ski Field entrance (parking will be in adjacent field) finishing on Pembroke Park in the middle of town. This may well be the fastest and most scenic Half Marathon in the country.
The 10k course will also start on Cardrona Valley Rd with a straight run home to Pembroke park. There will be one drink station just before the 6k mark.
Entries are now open, Half Marathon $55 (no junior category) 10k $40 (adult) and $25 (junior). Late fee (add $10) applies from Monday 28 March 2011 at 5pm. Download a PDF entry form here.
Half Marathon (open to runners and speed walkers capable of finishing in about 2hrs 45mins)
Start Time: 9 am (3km below Cardrona Hotel on main road to Wanaka) Briefing 8.45am.
Registration: Friday 1st April 1.oopm to 5pm at finish line on Pembroke Park and Saturday 2nd April at race start 7.30am to 8.30am (we recommend registering Friday).
For those who have pre-booked there will be busses on the morning of the race from the corner of McDougal and Ardmore streets (by Pembroke Park where we finish) leaving at 8am to transport competitors to the start line 3km below the Cardrona Village. Bus fare is $10 and you must have registered the day before in Pembroke Park.
10 Km (open to runners and walkers)
Start Time: 10 am 10km up cardrona valley road. Briefing 9.45am (Parking in paddock beside rd)
Registration: Friday 1st April 1.oopm to 5pm at finish line on Pembroke Park and Saturday 2nd April at the Start line 8.30am to 9.30 am. (we recommend registering Friday).
Prize giving: 12.30pm at Lake Wanaka Centre
Drink Stations.
Drink Station 1. – 5km at James Rd.
Drink Station 2. – Half way point
Drink Station 3. – 4.6km to go just past Riverbank Rd.
There will be plastic cup of water and Horleys Replace at each drink station as well as the start line and finish.
Km markers. – there will a red cone at 1km, 5km, 10km, half way. Each kilometre is marked on the road in fluoro and numbered. To halfway the kms go up, after halfway they are marked K’s to go.
The road verge is quite narrow in many places on both the Half Marathon course and the 10k. It is very important to keep as close as possible to the extreme right of the road and be very careful when passing other runners. Groups of runner please stay in single file. Thanks!!
