Wanaka Skyline Challenge - 27 kms, 1340m vertical climb. (1620m above sea level) Definitely not for the faint hearted, the Wanaka Skyline Challenge starts on the lake front opposite the Wanaka Show Grounds and follow the Millenium Track to Slaughter House Creek, then head West to the Mt Roy track. After summiting Mt Roy the course continues to Mt Alpha. From here the course heads east to Hillend then zig-zags down the Hillend face coming out onto Studholme Rd. From here it is a leisurely jaunt down Mt. Aspiring Rd. back to the finish at Wanaka Show Grounds.
There is a minimum gear requirementof weather proof jacket, long sleeve merino or thermal top, woollen or polyprop hat, gloves and whistle. You will need to carry your own water but there will be refill stations en-route.
Please respect private property- The down-hill after Mt Alpha (once you leave the Doc track) is only open to participants on race day (thanks very much).

Race Start/Finish:Wanaka Rugby Football Clubrooms, Wanaka Show Grounds- off McDougall St. (Beside Pembroke Park)
Registration open from 7.30am to collect your race number and get your compulsory gear checked.
Start Time: (Runners) 9am (power walkers) 8am. Prize giving: 2pm
Prizes – There will be merit and spot prizes for the deserving and the lucky.
(8am early start for estimated times over 4hr 30mins.)

Hillend Trail Run
Hillend Trail Run 13th Feb 2010.13.5km hill run/walk/hike. 200m vertical climb (500m above sea level) Starting on the Wanaka Show Grounds, following around the edge of Lake Wanaka to Ruby Island Rd., crossing the main road at Water Fall creek onto the Hillend property. following around the base of Hillend face climbing up to 500m with a few ups and downs on the way then follow a marked track over farm land onto a farm track heading North coming out onto Studholm Rd. Nth, them down onto Mt Aspiring Rd and back to the finish at the Show Ground. Please respect private property- this course is only open to participants on race day(thanks very much). This event is more tageted at beginner trail runners.
